6 HighlandersChampionTraveling through time…for a Highlander.

It’s been four long years since Arianna MacLeod Cunningham’s ancestor opened a portal in the past to free lost souls and inadvertently pulled Arianna through from the future into her time. Arianna desperately wants to save her ill father and return to him, and when she travels to the Highland Games being held so near her childhood home, that desire is one she can no longer deny.

Highland warrior James MacDonald is at the Games representing his clan. He hopes to topple the reigning champion, although the last thing he expects is to fall under Arianna’s spell. She’s the girl he cared for when she first fell through time, and now four years later, the woman he can’t allow to walk away.

When Arianna seeks to send a message to her father, James comes to her aid, only now destiny is about to pull them both apart. Can James find a way to save the woman he loves…even through the separation of time?

Exclusive Excerpt:

Arianna slept in a large four-poster bed, her pale blond lashes glimmering in the fire’s glow. She was such an innocent.

James knelt at her side and smoothed his knuckles across her soft cheeks. Everything about her touched him, from her absolute devotion to those she loved to her feisty and fierce nature. He breathed deep and her sweet vanilla scent swirled seductively around him. From the moment he’d carried her into Zenia’s cottage and she’d burrowed against him, he’d experienced an overwhelming sense of rightness, one that had grown over the years from strength to strength. Being with her, holding her, was all he desired. Hell, how on earth was he meant to court another woman when she was the one he wanted?

If only Arianna wished for what he did, but in the four years since her arrival she’d never once changed her course of mind. Her aspiration was to return to her father, a dream he couldn’t and wouldn’t deny her.

“Mmm, James.” Arianna pushed her arms out from under the covers, dislodging the tartan blanket. Her nightrail remained loose at the top, the ties partially undone and exposing the upper swell of her breasts. “Don’t leave me, James. You promised should I ever have need of you, you’d come,” she murmured in her sleep.

“I’m here.” He hauled the blanket back up to her neck. Her lush creamy skin would send him insane if he saw any more of it.

“James?” She blinked her eyes open and sat up, the dratted tartan slipping to her waist. “How did you get in here?” She searched the room. “The door’s bolted.”

“We have adjoining chambers and there’s a connecting door inside your ambry that leads to mine. Your, ah”—he motioned toward her chest—“nightrail is loose.”

“Oh.” She yanked the ties together and closed the gap. “What a stroke of good luck to have adjoining rooms.”

“William wouldnae think so.”

“Then we’d best not tell him.” Smiling, she wriggled across and patted the mattress. “Sit with me. Now we finally have a decent chance to talk.”

“Aye, we do.” He toed off his boots, propped his sword beside her bed where it would lay within easy reach and sat beside her. They’d talk, and then he’d leave. She was a craving he had to set aside, for both their sakes.

“You have a rather serious expression on your face.” She plumped her pillow and propped it behind her.

“’Tis naught. I said we’d speak about your desire to seek out your Cunningham ancestors and the conditions you’ll need to agree to when I take you. I willnae allow you to speak to them, to divulge your secret to another, but if you know of a safe place to keep your letter where your father might find it then I’ll gladly aid you.”

“I’m sure I can come up with somewhere.” She popped a kiss on his cheek. “Thank you. I’m very grateful for all you do for me.”

“You shouldnae kiss me.” He palmed the place where the heat of her kiss still lingered.

“That wasn’t a kiss.” She leaned in again and this time licked his lower lip. “Neither was that, but I’m getting closer.”

Desire surged through his blood and he growled her name, gripped her arms and pressed her back into the mattress with his body. Looming over her, he hoped like hell he had a stern enough expression on his face. “This is your last warning. You shouldnae kiss me.”

“You seem rather bent out of shape over what I wouldn’t even call a kiss.” She wriggled her body and her nipples poked her thin nightrail. “Honestly, I’d like to kiss you. It might help me stop wondering what it might be like.”

“You need to watch your words as well.” His cock hardened and pressed into her belly. “Do you no’ feel what you do to me? I want you Arianna. I always have.”

“Then kiss me. We’re alone and no one can interrupt us.” She slid her hands free of his hold, wrapped her arms around his neck then gently, drew him closer. “One kiss, and we’ll make it count.”

With her dying breath, Katherine MacLean makes a wish inside a faerie circle, a wish that sends her traveling through time and into the arms of the warrior the fae have bound her soul to. She is the progeny of two great clans, MacLean and MacDonald, but with a vicious feud raging between them, she’s called by the fae to unite and bring about some peace.

Highland warrior John MacDonald holds a piece of Katherine’s soul and only through him can she survive. When Katherine escapes him to the enemy’s land to see to the fae’s mission, everything within him demands he make chase and protect her.

Once Katherine joins her MacLean kin, she discovers her mission is not quite as it seems. Can she find a way to claim the warrior her soul hungers for…without becoming the one who ignites the feud?

Exclusive Excerpt:

“I’m not going to alter the future, John, just provide some relief while keeping it on track. Why else would the fae have given me this mission?”

“I still cannae allow you to step one foot on MacLean land. There will never be peace.” He caressed her sides, roamed down and scooped her bottom. Lifted higher, he pressed his hips against hers. “You’ll do as I say and remain here where you’ll be safe from any harm.”

“You can’t use your strength against me. I’m a twenty-first century woman, and we operate by a whole separate set of rules. Force isn’t one of them.” Katherine seized his thick biceps and held on.

“I would never use force against you, no’ by any means.” He carried her to the bed and laid her across the mattress. Gently, he nudged her knees apart and with his legs between hers, sank down. He covered her mouth with his and kissed her, so sweetly she melted. He was so big and strong and all hers, or at least for this stolen moment in time.

“I love how you kiss me.”

“And I love how you respond.” With painstaking slowness, he grazed a finger along the upper swell of her breasts where her nightrail dipped. “I shouldnae be touching you so, but I cannae help myself.”

“I ache, John, in places I’ve never ached before.” She squeezed her eyes shut and when she opened them, she couldn’t halt her plea. “Kiss me again.”

He kissed her, a deep, devouring kiss that made her heartbeat flutter into a frenzy. “I give you my oath, Katherine. You will always have my protection, my absolute aid and undying loyalty. Dinnae you feel what’s between us?”

“I do, and I want to take more just for myself, but changing the path your future is set on isn’t right. Last night you told me of your desire to take a wife and to have children. I’ll never be that person.”

“You have too much love to give to withhold it.”

“A stolen moment or two is all I can permit.” She cupped his cheeks. “Although I have an admission if you wish to hear it.”

“Speak it. No secrets are permitted between us.”

“During the years of my mother’s illness, both my sister and I spent all our time with her and never bothered delving into a relationship. In the future, women ensure their own protection, and I took care of that in case I ever needed it in place. I can’t fall pregnant, or at least not for the next two months. The precautions I took are ninety-nine percent effective. I had an injection”—she tapped her arm—“right here.”

He frowned and smoothed his fingers over her arm. “I dinnae see how your arm can protect you against what goes on far below.”

“There are incredible medical advances in my time that provide the protection I’m talking about. Believe me, I’m protected.”

“What are you trying to say?”

“That an affair between us is possible, provided it’s a short one.”

“An affair isnae what I’m after.” He lifted himself up, gripped her hands and tugged her to her feet. With a scowl, he picked up his sword and belt. “I have duties to attend to.”

“You’re angry that I’ve asked for an affair?”

“You deserve more than just a toss of your skirts and a hard and fast tumble.” He strode to the door and eyed her. “I’ll send a maid with your bath and a tray then return for you at the midday meal. Be prepared for a swim.”

“I’ll be ready.”

He closed the door and her heart grew heavier as his footfalls trailed away. From the moment she’d fallen through the veil and into his arms, their connection had fused and only deepened in the weeks that had followed. Opening up to him last night about her nightmares had been inevitable. Her trust in him was absolute, although she couldn’t offer him any more than a simple affair.

HIGHLANDER’S CHARM

Traveling through time…for a Highlander.

Lila MacIan makes a wish upon a sixteenth century charm gifted to her by her missing grandmother, a wish that sends her traveling back into the past and to a warrior her charm has bound her to. With a vicious feud raging between the clans, she withholds her true identity from him, except he’s seen her grandmother and now she must do whatever it takes to find her.

Highland warrior Calum MacLean is bound to a woman who holds an identical charm to his. Visions assail him, of the two of them intimately together, and as Lila escapes him for the enemy’s land, his soul demands he protect and aid her.

Once Lila is reunited with her grandmother, she discovers she was born in the past to the MacIan laird, Calum’s arch enemy. Can she find a way to save the man her soul cries out for…set her past to rights and remain in her true time?

NEVER BEFORE SEEN EXCERPT:

At the cave, Calum knelt and rested his cheek near Lila’s lips. Her breath fluttered across his skin and relief poured through him. If he’d been any later in finding her, he’d have lost her.

Quickly, he dug a small pit in the sandy dirt. He pulled the stringy bark off a log, struck flint with his dirk, and coaxed the sparks to life. He built the fire into a crackling blaze with the twigs and wood.

“Mmm, Calum.” She wriggled and stretched.

“Aye, I’m here.” He spread his spare plaid closer to the heat of the flames, scooped her up and laid her in front of him. With his body curved around hers, he tried to share as much of his own heat as he could.

“That’s good. Sooo good.”

“You should have remained at Duart.” He tucked a lock of her black hair behind her ear then wiped grit from her cheeks and chin.

“Sorry, what? Did you get the hot chocolate?”

“You’re teasing me?” Aye, she was, going by the mischievous tilt to her lips. “What is this hot chocolate you speak of?”

“You have to try it. You take chocolate powder and stir it into frothy milk then toss a big gooey marshmallow on top. Delicious. The waitress at my local coffee shop makes the best ones.” She pushed her hands from the confines of his tartan and wiggled her fingers before the flames. “After I fell into the stream I thought Nanna was here, or I was back home, or something. Remind me to never drink icy water on an empty stomach again.”

“What I’ll do is never allow you to swim in the loch again.”

She squirmed around. “I couldn’t stay at Duart, not when I have to get to Ardnamurchan.”

“Margaret told me where you’d gone. Why do you believe your grandmother left for MacIan’s territory?”

“If I told you, you’d get angry, and right when I want to show you some appreciation for saving my life.” Her silver eyes lit. “Want to know how?”

“By showing me your heart shaped mole?” Nay, he shouldn’t encourage her. She needed to rest.

“I missed you, Calum.” She leaned in and kissed him. “After I swam away, I felt as if I’d left part of me behind. Each mile dragged.”

“You willnae leave me again.” He brushed his lips across hers, wanting desperately to imbibe further and drink in her sweet taste. An urge to show her exactly how much he’d missed her burned through him. Aye, this was their cave, the one where he would—damn it, she was still weak and needed to conserve her strength.

“That mole on my belly”—she melted against him—“I want you to see it. Can you help me take this wetsuit off? I want to feel more of the fire’s heat on my skin.”

“I—I set the snare.”

“Then I’d say it caught me.” Her sweet mouth lifted and he traced her plump lower lip.

No more. He had to get out of here. He shot to his feet and dived out of the cave.

“Hey, where are you going? That’s not the kind of snare I meant, mister.”

“I’ll return with food,” he called back. “If you wish to change, there’s clothing in the sack Margaret packed for you.”

Her sigh followed him into the dark as he marched on.
